Guidance on Elective Posts

3 months before the post

Contact the GP trainer and specialty consultants to organise or confirm your timetable. Submit the proposed timetable to your GP trainer, and your GP Educator. Obtain confirmation that the timetable is appropriate.

Establish your learning objectives for each specialty.

At the start of the post

Ensure you have a brief induction to each specialty. Discuss your learning objectives with the educational supervisor for each specialty

During the post

Keep a record of sessions attended and a brief summary of key points learnt for your Learning Portfolio.

You should have an appraisal with your supervisor at the start middle and end of each post.

In the last month of the post

Write a report giving an overview of the post and what you have learned. By the end of the post you should have available timetables, a record of sessions attended and learning, appraisal reports and the report on the post to include in your Learning Portfolio.
