Your GP Trainer Meetings

Every GP ST1/2 needs to keep in touch with his/her GP Trainer throughout the hospital-based training. The GP Trainer can provide support and advice, as well as to help orientate the doctor’s learning objectives towards general practice.  These visits help the doctor to orientate their hospital training towards general practice

Enhance links between GP Trainer, practice and the doctor who will be their future GP Registrar

Provide support and career /stress advice for doctors during their hospital training

Doctors are encouraged to plan to stay a whole morning or afternoon in the practice. Alongside a one-to-one session with your Trainer, ST1/2s can usefully spend time in a surgery, either observing the GP Trainer or, ideally, seeing a few patients and discussing their management with the GP Trainer. Such time reminds doctors of the flavour of general practice consultations and their emphasis on outpatient and chronic care.

These sessions have been very positively evaluated by other ST1/2s and provide a source of continuity over the hospital training years
