GPR Educational Log

The Severn and Wessex Deanery requires all GP Registrars to have an Educational Log. The key component of an Educational Log must be a Personal Development Plan (PDP), but it should also contain:

1. A record of formative assessment

2. A record of appraisal

3. A record of the educational process

4. Evidence of learning.

The Educational Log is part of the Learning Portfolio which will also contain information such as the following:

  • Your signed educational agreement with your trainer

  • A copy of your curriculum vitae

  • Evidence of GMC registration and medical insurance

  • Timetables

  • Useful contact telephone numbers

  • Paperwork from your training practice, e.g. contract of employment

  • Paperwork from the release course

  • Evidence of attendance at courses

An Educational Log should be useful and relevant to the GP registrar, but it must also provide the opportunity for independent assessment by the local associate director or the Joint Committee of the quality of the training and the educational process. The compilation of an Educational Log is not a question of ticking boxes. It will require some original thought, and you will need the help of your trainer. You may find the Wessex Way published by Blackwell Science a useful source of information.
