Minor Surgery
Training should consist of:
- A theoretical course with a minimum of 2 full days (= 14 hours)
or part-time equivalent. It must have a practical component with simulated
tissues, by which practical techniques are demonstrated.
- Additionally, there will be a minimum of three
practical sessions with approved teachers over the necessary range of
procedures and a statement issued on successful completion. Approved
teachers are practitioners on the minor surgery list, and are not required
to be trainers.
- A current CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) certificate is
obligatory.
- All doctors are required to maintain a Minor Surgery Log with a
record of 18 witnessed cases, three for each skill offered. This record
will be submitted to the trainer for audit at the end of the training
period and it is intended that the discipline of annual audit will become
part of the individual practitioner’s continuing medical education.
