Travel and Subsistence

GP registrars are entitled to claim for travel and subsistence for attendance at courses, lectures and other educational activities approved for GPR training. Click here for a list of the courses approved for GPR training and the levels of funding for each course.

All applications for the reimbursement of course fees must be sought in advance of attendance, by completing the front page only of form GPCF/1 and submitting to Mrs Heather Joel at the Severn and Wessex Deanery. Prior approval may also need to be sought from the local associate director. The only exception being release course where prior approval is not required and claims should be sent to relevant course administrator for validation at end of term prior to forwarding to Severn and Wessex Deanery.

Recognition can also be given for attendance at courses outside the Deanery, for special visits, or for attachments to other types of practice from the one in which the GP registrar is based. PRIOR approval MUST be gained well in advance, from the local associate director before the proposed educational course starts. If approval is granted, reimbursement is from Section 63 funds but travel and subsistence is only up to the maximum allowed by the Department of Health and there is no guarantee that course fees incurred will be repaid in full, as the budget is limited.

GP registrars may claim for travel and subsistence involved for taking appropriate exams and diplomas on form GPCF/3 obtainable from and paid by the relevant Health Authority. They are not entitled to the examination fee.
