GPR Appraisal
NHS appraisal for consultants and GPs has been an annual requirement for
the last two years, and it was proposed in 2003 that this should also
apply to training grade doctors. Consequently from April 2004 each Deanery
has been asked to ensure this occurs for every doctor in training, using
the forms available on the:
Department of Health website. The forms are very similar to those for
GP appraisal, with Forms 1, 2 and 3 to be completed by the registrar, and
then Form 4 completed after the appraisal by the appraiser and signed off
by the registrar. It is intended that the registrar should then use Form 4
as a basis for their first NHS appraisal as a career grade doctor and to
give them a guide to their next year’s CPD. A copy of Form 4 should be
sent to the local
Associate
Director.
NHS appraisal for the GP registrar will take place in month 11 of the
training year and be completed by the GP trainer.
Further guidance on NHS appraisal is available on the following websites:
The COGPED guidance was issued to Deaneries in April 2004 and instituted
in Severn and Wessex for GPRs completing their training in summer 2004.
The process will be reviewed following this pilot.
