Educational Development Plan

Every GP retainee is required to produce a written educational development plan annually. This should be produced within six weeks of starting in the practice, if the doctor is a new retainee, or when renewing on the scheme.

The plan should be discussed with the retainee’s educational supervisor. It should be fairly simple, incorporating answers to the following questions, and probably be no more than one side of A4:

  • What do I want to learn?
  • Why do I want to learn this and how have I identified my learning needs?
  • How am I going to learn? e.g. private study, attending courses, etc.
  • How will I know when I have succeeded?

The plan should be submitted to the patch Associate Director. In time we envisage that the plans will become part of the practice professional development plans.
