Audit

The completed audit cycle has been introduced for all GP registrars in Severn and  Wessex starting in general practice on or after 1 February 2002.

A completed audit cycle (an 8 criteria audit) comprises two collections of data separated by a change. The competency which is being assessed is “the ability to review and critically analyse the practitioner’s own working practices and manage any necessary changes appropriately.”

GP registrars are advised to keep the audit simple and relevant. Adequate preparation and planning with an audit calendar early in the training year will ensure that a trainer and registrar are confident about working within the time available.

Dr Michael Harris, a course organiser in Bath /Swindon, has produced an excellent on-line Audit Study Guide and we strongly recommend you visit his site.

You should also make sure you have read the audit checklist.
