Welcome to the School of General Practice at Severn Deanery. We are a
new body, set up in April 2007 to organise and develop all aspects of
postgraduate training in General Practice in Avon, Somerset, Wiltshire and
Gloucestershire.
I, together with all of my associate director team, are keen that there
is strong representation from GP specialist trainees on the various
political and administrative bodies that affect them. GPSTs from Severn are
represented on our local LMCs, RCGP faculty and national groups such as the
BMA.
Severn is unusual in that it also has GPST representation on all of its
key committees and working groups. This ensures that your voice is heard at
all stages of policy development. The committee also runs an annual
conference - to which you are warmly invited to attend.
Whilst this is a unique strength of our school, it will only work if you
all throw yourselves into the work of the Severn GPST committee - in
whatever capacity you can. I can promise you that you wont be bored, and in
addition to representing your peers it will be a hugely educational
experience - and look great on your CVs!

Khistriya, Chair Severn GPST Committee
I am looking forward to chairing such an enthusiastic committee who would
like to have an input into the development and future of GP training within
Severn. I have recently transferred from London Deanery to Severn for my ST3
year. I am working as an ST3 in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire. I completed my
first two years hospital training at Homerton Hospital in Hackney (NE
London). I am excited about the future of this committee and hope we can
represent trainees at both a local and national level. So if you have
concerns regarding your training then please contact your local rep who can
feed this information into the committee.
